Dynamic Power Dissipation In Wireless Receivers
This paper shows how average power dissipation in wireless receivers can be significantly reduced, by using circuits which only dissipate the minimum power needed to handle the situation at hand (signal and interference). As this situation changes, so does the power dissipation; in portable applications, this can lead to significantly extended battery life. The paper describes several circuit techniques that make this possible, and which are applicable to a variety of basic receiver building blocks, such as LNAs, mixers, filters, and VCOs. Measurements on a test chip are presented.
